Jane Burbank | BIO
Jane Burbank is an experienced and consummate performer who has built
a large and devoted following during her extensive career as a singer.
Back Stage has said, “Jane Burbank is a poised, polished performer with
a gorgeous voice.” A quote from a Newsday review said she is, “Substantial…
simple…sweet, pointed on the moment.”
Jane began singing professionally in high school. She postponed college
and began to pursue opportunities as a professional singer. Soon she’d
built a successful career, performing in nightclubs, on television and radio
across the U.S.
Jane has been predominantly a solo artist working with both big bands
as well as smaller ensembles. She has also worked in theatre. Jane has
done a great deal of recording both as a backup singer and a solo artist.
Through her many years of performing, Jane has been influenced by many
different styles of music as well as performers. Rock, pop, blues, jazz
standards and musical theatre have all become integrated into Jane’s style
of singing and choice of material. As a trained and experienced singer
Jane is able to cross over into many different genres of music. She may
be best known for her reading of a lyric and “torch-like” ballad singing.
Jane was born in Portland Maine and transplanted to the New York area
when she was five. She always knew she wanted to be a singer. Her father,
a physician, was also an accomplished singer who sang to her from the time
she was born. He would sing dramatic and beautiful arias to her that gave
her an emotional connection to music and singing.
After a hiatus from performing, in order to raise a daughter and to finish
college and graduate school, Jane is happily back recording and performing.
She also has a thriving voice teaching practice and integrative psychotherapy
practice in New York City.
